Draughtproofing - What exactly is it?
Well years ago before brush fibre was invented Sash Windows were made to simply be painted and when dry slide against timber strips which hold the window togeher.
Draw back with this is that whilst timber is beautiful it warps with change in temperature and weather. So when the individual sections warp gaps appear and there come the draught.
Nowadays there are a few different types of draughtproofing available on the market but some which you MUST aim to not use. Some companies offering these services use brush throughout their window restoration services, saving money and time and maximizing their profit. The drawback with using brush throughout is it picks up dirt quickly, becomes matted together and apart from then unsightly, fails to operate as an effective seal.
We use brush to ensure the window glides and only in areas which are removed from external vision and where the rain can touch it. The centre bead which is somewhat like a rail on a train track, is replaced entirely for a nylon bead with flexible rubber wings either side. This is far more expensive for us to purchase, approx 6 times that of brush but ensures our guarantee of 5 years works.
